1. Clean your gutters! Spring showers can cause water buildup that can lead to costly damage. Regularly cleaning gutters helps to keep rainwater flowing properly, which protects your roof, walls, and foundation.
2. Choose "green" cleaning products. Swap your disposable cleaning products for reusable ones. For example, use reusable rags in place of paper towels, buy cleaning products in bulk or utilize refill stores, and save energy and water by only running washing machines and dishwashers when there is a full load!
3. Avoid mulch mounds! Mounding mulch around trees (known as "volcano mulching") suffocates roots, traps moisture, and encourages rot, diseases, and pest infestations. When mulching around trees, ensure mulch is pulled back from the base of the tree and only 2-4 inches deep.
4. Donate or repurpose old items! Instead of throwing old/unused items into the trash, consider giving them to a local charity. Most old furniture and clothing can be donated, recycled, or repurposed.
5. Plant native greenery. When sprucing up your yard and gardens, choose native plants! They require less maintenance and serve as vital habitat for local pollinators.
